The Weekly Wrap-Up: Batty for Phonological Awareness and Witchy Crafts

Happy Thursday night!

We have a professional development day tomorrow, so there's no therapy. I get to spend the day trying to play catch up, since I'm trying really hard to not bring work home with me anymore. I'm much too busy playing with this bundle of joy:

I have several students who really need help with phonological awareness, and these posters from Lakeshore Learning really come in handy. See the word on the top left? Follow me on Instagram (@whitneyslp) to see the sentence the student gave me as an explanation of word meaning!

We used Jenn at Crazy Speech World's Witchy Craftivity this week. I absolutely loved that I could modify this activity to use with every single group I have. Even my 5th graders loved it. For the non-writers, we drew pictures. For my speech groups, they used the "My Spell" page to list items a witch would use to cast a spell or make a potion, with their speech sounds, of course! Oh-and we read "Room on the Broom," which was a perfect fit for this craft! You can see Jenn's post about the craftivity by clicking HERE.

This is BY FAR my favorite witchy face! Check back next week to see more examples. I love that some kids naturally made nice witches, and some made mean ones!

Finally, I had to do a little work in the organizational department, and went through my markers to cull the ones that were dried out. Am I the only one who obsesses over this?!?!?!

Next week in therapy, we're finishing our witch crafts, checking out the Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat, and using my Halloween activities to target our specific goals. After my work day tomorrow, we're off to GA for a weekend visit!

The Weekly Wrap-up: Matt & Molly, Halloween, Student Data, and more!

Hi Everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful Saturday. I spent the day catching up with visiting friends, watching football, and napping with my sweet little girl! Now that she's in dreamland, I'm working on my ever-growing to-do list! I wanted to give you all a little peak into our therapy room with a weekly wrap-up from this past week!

My students with Autism are using these Fall-related short stories by LinguiSystems to
work on reading and auditory comprehension!

Love the sensory vocabulary cards from Lakeshore learning to work
on expressive and receptive language!

Comparing and Contrasting Halloween & Thanksgiving!

Writing prompt pages and Venn Diagram from my History of Halloween Packet

Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork!!! (and sweet tea!)

Love reading Ten Timid Ghosts and making Ghost Toast for the letter "G" week in Pre-K! (We used marshmallow spread this year instead of cream cheese...(much easier for the kids to spread,) and mini chocolate chips for the face!)

The speech room got a makeover for Halloween!

This lifesaving Chocolate Chip Frappe is helping me through the middle of the night feedings these days...and I never drank coffee of any kind before...only Coca Cola!

Student's keeping their own data is a great way to hold them accountable and help them invest in their own progress. These student data sheets are available for free in my TPT store!

Overall, we had a wonderful week in therapy! What are you guys up to?!?!

Turkey Trouble for Thanksgiving!

Hi Everyone!

I'm back today to highlight one of my favorite books of all time: Turkey Trouble! I'm serious, people...if I could get away with teaching this book year round, I absolutely would! This book has all the essentials: vocabulary, repetition, predicting, problem solving, dynamic characters, figurative language, and much more! It also fits perfectly with Story Grammar Marker, which you all know I love. And most importantly, it is cute, cute, cute!

This year, I finally got around to creating a companion packet to go along with it. This packet includes activities for ages Pre-K and up. You can see the packet in my TPT store by clicking the title page picture below, or following the link at the end of the post.  There's also an Amazon affiliate link included for your convenience. Below are the highlights:
