SLP Chain Letter Link Up

Happy Monday, Everyone!

I am finally getting around to completing my part of the SLP Chain Letter Link Up! I have LOVED reading these posts, which were originally coined by an SLP Blogger over at Teach Speech 365. I had the pleasure of getting to know two relatively new bloggers, Karen Parden from Just Speechy, and Kristine Akers from Speak Listen Play. Make sure you take a look at their blogs and their Facebook pages! You can see my interview questions at the Major Speech Minor Girl blog. Anyway, here we go.....

First up is Karen!

1. Your name, email, blog address, link to TPT store if you have one.
            Karen Parden, justspeechyblog.blogspot.com, www.justspeechyblog.blogspot.com
            http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Karen-Parden

2. When and why did you start blogging?
November 2012. I started blogging because I enjoy talking about speech and communication. I
love connecting with others and sharing ideas and materials.
3. What is your favorite population to work with?
            Hearing Impaired
4. How much time per week do you spend blogging and/or creating materials?
Lately, a lot - probably 10 hours in addition to my paid full time job in the school system and my unpaid
full time job of being a wife and mother
5. What's your favorite topic to create materials for?
Artic and Language as it relates to Auditory-Verbal Therapy
6. What's the best thing about blogging?
Meeting people from across the country and sharing ideas!
7. Do you have any blogging tips?
I’m just a beginning blogger, but I would say making sure you link up with other experiences SLP
bloggers is a must!
8. Answer any other question of your choice!
I am in the process of learning more about Auditory Verbal Therapy and hope to become Certified in the
            future!

Next up is Kristine!

1. Your name, email, blog address, link to TPT store if you have one.
2. When and why did you start blogging?
I started blogging in December 2012 with my friend and co-worker, Krysta. I have been toying around with
the idea of blogging for about 3 years. With the inspiration I had from fellow SLP bloggers, I decided to go
for it! One of my professional goals is to always improve communication with the families and teachers I
work with. The blog allows for me to share my knowledge, ideas, and resources with them in one spot!
3. What is your favorite population to work with?
I have always known I wanted to work with younger kids. Currently, I work with 3-6 year-old students and I love it. I have experience working with children ages 1-12, and I feel preschool / early elementary ages are my niche!
4. How much time per week do you spend blogging and/or creating materials?
I spend about 10 hours / week. I try to spend a few hours each night, but I can easily spend 5 hours on the
computer without realizing it! The first month I spent most of my time figuring out the techy parts of
blogging.. now I can concentrate on the fun stuff, making materials!
5. What's your favorite topic to create materials for?
With all my materials, I target the lower elementary population. I haven't created a ton yet, but I am excited
to create language games for my preschoolers. I also really like to create resources to share my knowledge
with teachers and parents (check out my freebie below about what ages sound develop!). Having an easy to
read and cute handout to share with them - even better! I noticed this has really come in handy lately, as
many of my friends start to have children :)
6. What's the best thing about blogging?
The best part about starting Speak Listen Play has been meeting so many amazing SLPs that share my
enthusiasm for all things speechy! I am overwhelmed my their wealth of knowledge, support and
encouragement, and work ethic! They truly inspire me to be the best SLP I can be.
7. Do you have any blogging tips?
Try not compare your blog/numbers/likes/downloads to others. This can be hard - especially at first.
Remember your original goals for starting your blog and find your voice. Oh, and have fun with it!
8. Answer any other question of your choice!
    Goals for 2013??
Buy my first home and get a puppy!!!!

Please check out Speak Listen Play's facebook page and give us a 'like' if you would like to receive updates!
Here is a (freebie) to share with parents and teachers: http://www.speaklistenplay.com/2013/01/speech-sound-development.html

Thanks so much for participating, ladies!!!

Announcements and a FREEBIE!

Happy New Years!!!

Today is a very special day! Besides it being New Years, today is my BIRTHDAY! In addition, we've also reached 100 likes on the Let's Talk Facebook page, AND wait for it.....we're having a BABY!!!!! My husband and I were able to surprise both of our families on Christmas Eve with the exciting news!

My next therapy theme after Christmas Break is Arctic Animals. I've been busy working on activities to go along with this theme for the past few days! So to celebrate my birthday, 100 likes on FB, and our baby news, I thought I'd do a FREEBIE! And what better way than to celebrate a new baby than with a Mommy-Baby Arctic Animal Matching game!

Hope you all have a wonderful New Year's Day with your loves.

Thanks for all your support in 2012. I can't wait to see what 2013 brings (well, besides the ever-present morning sickness!)
